Winter rest starts with dry, warm feet

In winter, rest is not a break but part of capability. Enough unbroken sleep maintains alertness, judgement and endurance in cold conditions. Whether rest works out is often decided by the feet, because cold feet and toes break sleep easily.

Enough rest holds capability together

Sufficient rest maintains capability in winter conditions. When sleep is short or broken, alertness and performance drop even while you are awake. When a person is tired, judgement and adherence to routines also fail more easily, and that increases exposure to cold-related problems.

The sleeping environment is set to the right temperature

Sleep quality suffers if the sleeping place is too cold or too warm. Both extremes break sleep and slow recovery. It is worth adjusting the temperature so the feeling stays evenly warm through the night.

Feet are protected before you turn in

Protecting the feet matters particularly when sleeping in the cold. Cold feet and toes disturb rest easily and wake you mid-sleep. Dry, warm feet help you fall asleep and keep the sleep more continuous.

Long periods awake increase the risk

Long stretches without sleep increase carelessness, neglected routines and unnecessary risk-taking. Attention and judgement weaken, so even small mistakes become more common. Even a short planned sleep period helps recovery after a long stretch awake.
