Words of the Founder

I wanted to create a channel that tells a story from the perspective of a Finnish soldier. In particular, I wanted to materialize the experiences of the community and bring them into a form that can be worn like a tattoo. From this came the idea of creating clothing that immortalizes the experiences, beliefs, humor and emotions of our community in the form of images and text. Most of the clothing designs are either ideas from members of our community or verbal experiences that have been dressed up as clothing. This is the direction of Potero Standard, now and in the future.

We have strong roots and a valuable legacy from the veterans of our wars, and the time may come again when the spirit of the Winter War and the fortitude of the Finnish soldier will be tested again.

Potero Standard was created based on the theme of the will to defend our country. I think that many important values fit under this theme, such as "no friend is left behind", "Finnish volunteer spirit", grit and perseverance, and of course the desire to defend our independence out of free will.

Each of us can contribute in our own way and strengthen the continuity of our independence, and I see this as one of the most important values of the will to defend our country.

I think the will to defend the country is not a warlike word and only means that by practicing the battle we win. The will to defend the country can be small everyday actions and it can emerge in situations that are in no way related to military activity.

A Finnish soldier is also, in principle, a committed member of society, such as a teacher, doctor, train driver or warehouse worker, and makes his own contribution to the common future through his own work. However, a Finnish soldier is also ready to take up arms - or support in his own way (as the Finnish Lotts did) - and defend our country if our independence is threatened.

Potero Standard clothing is intended for all of us who carry this sense of duty with pride. Anyone who feels that Finland and Finnishness are an asset to be protected and who contributes to our society is a welcome member of the Potero community.

I have been able to follow the life of a Finnish soldier as a conscript, a reservist and in a position in the Defence Forces. I have also been a peacekeeper in Lebanon. These experiences have above all been a great opportunity to meet the finest guys, and have provided memories that I will never forget.

Best regards, Sergeant Schmidt.
