What a hood does
The idea is simple: when the weather turns, cover goes over your head in seconds. Heat stays in better and the wind stays out of your ears.
A large share of heat escapes around the head and neck, particularly in wind. Pulling a hood up is the fastest single way to feel better without rethinking the whole outfit.

Wind is the Finnish classic that always seems to come from the wrong direction. A hood cuts it straight off the neck and the ears.
- A 288 g/m² knit is dense enough to cut a draught. A thin hoodie does not do the same.
- Using the hood reduces the fiddling with a beanie and a jacket collar.
Rain: here are the limits
Honestly: a cotton hoodie is not a weather garment and is not waterproof. Cotton absorbs water, and once wet it stays wet for a long time and pulls heat out of the body. That property is the exact opposite of a shell jacket.
In practice that means:
- In brief drizzle the hood is enough cover for the walk to the car or the shop door.
- For real rain you need a shell. The hoodie works under it as the mid layer.
- If the hoodie gets soaked through, change into something dry. Do not stay out in the frost in wet cotton.

Cold: managing heat
In the cold the hood's main job is heat management. When the head and neck stay covered, the whole body feels warmer.
The 288 g/m² Cotton Heritage base gives that some structure: the fabric does not go slack and does not let a draught through as easily as a light knit. In dry frost it works on its own. In harder weather it belongs under a jacket.

Chest width is measured armpit to armpit laid flat, not as a chest circumference. If you want a more relaxed fit or you are between two sizes, choose the larger size.
